SUNAKALI receives two awards at KIMFF

Bhojraj Bhat’s SUNAKALI bagged two awards at the 12th edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF). The documentary was awarded with ‘Best ICIMOD Mountain Film Award’ carrying a purse of USD 1,000. It also received jury award.

The 45-minute documentary-film tells the story of Sunakali, a 14-year-old girl from Mugu, and her team’s victory at a national level women’s football championship held in 2013.

The documentary ‘Days of Tarap’ based on physical infrastructure and tourism development of Dolpa district received top prize of USD 1,500, ‘Trees that Walk’ (second) and ‘The Cave Connection’ (third) received USD 1, 000 and USD 500 respectively.

Under Nepal panorama, ‘Punte Ko Pangro’ of Sachin Ghimire was declared best under fiction category, while ‘Manish Harayeko Suchana’ became best under non-fiction category. These two films received Rs 30,000 each. ‘Butte Jama’ received Audience Choice Award based on voting by audiences.

KIMFF 2014 jury members included British photographer Henry Iddon, US mountaineer and filmmaker David Breashears and Italian filmmaker Paola Nessi.
