Sukarma Album Put Forward for 2027 Grammy Best Global Music Album Consideration
Nepali folk and classical music ensemble Sukarma has announced that its album SUKARMA – Live at Paris La Grande Pagoda has been put forward for consideration in the Best Global Music Album category at the upcoming 69th Annual Grammy Awards.
Tabla player Avirodh Sharma shared on Instagram with a “For Your Grammy® Consideration” post, highlighting the musicians featured on the live album: Prof. Dr. Dhrubesh Chandra Regmi on sitar, Sharma on tabla and Umesh Pandit on bansuri.
The post describes the album as capturing the distinctive atmosphere of Paris’ La Grande Pagoda and thanks fans and supporters for their encouragement.
A live blend of sitar, tabla and bansuri
Live at Paris La Grande Pagoda brings together sitar, tabla and bansuri in a live setting, reflecting Sukarma’s long-running focus on Nepali and Eastern classical musical traditions.
The project continues the ensemble’s efforts to introduce its instrumental sound to audiences beyond Nepal.
Founded in 1997, Sukarma has spent decades presenting Nepali folk and classical music on international stages. The group has regularly performed outside Nepal, including a European tour in 2025 that featured performances in Switzerland, Germany, France and Belgium.
Grammy consideration is not a nomination
While the announcement marks an important stage in the album’s Grammy campaign, there is an important distinction: being submitted or promoted “For Your Grammy Consideration” does not mean an album has been nominated for a Grammy Award.
The Recording Academy’s annual Grammy process begins with the Online Entry Process, during which eligible recordings and works can be submitted by qualified Recording Academy members and registered media companies.
For the 69th Annual Grammy Awards, the Online Entry Period ran from July 7 through August 21, 2026. Entries are reviewed for eligibility and appropriate category placement before eligible works can move to the official First Round ballot.
Recording Academy Voting Members then participate in First Round Voting, which determines the nominees. For the 2027 Grammys, First Round Voting is scheduled for October 12–22, 2026.
That means Sukarma’s current “For Your Grammy Consideration” campaign should not be described as an official Grammy nomination.
Nominees will be revealed on November 16
The official nominees for the 2027 Grammy Awards are scheduled to be announced on November 16, 2026. Following the nominations announcement, Final Round Voting will take place from December 10, 2026 through January 7, 2027, with Recording Academy voters choosing the winners from the nominated works.
The 69th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 7, 2027, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
A wider international platform for Nepali music
Although consideration is not the same as receiving a nomination, the campaign offers Sukarma another opportunity to place its music in front of an international music-industry audience.
For an ensemble that has spent decades carrying Nepali folk and classical instrumental traditions to stages abroad, the Grammy consideration campaign could also introduce its music to new listeners and industry professionals.
For now, the next major date in Sukarma’s Grammy journey is November 16, when the official nominations for the 2027 Grammy Awards will be revealed.
