Anjali Lama Walks Multiple Shows at Lakmé Fashion Week 2026, Including Grand Finale
Nepali model Anjali Lama’s latest Lakmé Fashion Week appearances took her from emerging designer showcases to the event’s grand finale. Walking for several labels during the October 2026 edition, she returned to the fashion platform where her international breakthrough began nearly a decade ago.
Held in New Delhi from October 13 to 18, Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI brought together established designers, new talent and regional craft traditions. Reels shared on Lama’s official Instagram account offer glimpses of her participation across the programme.
Among the highlights was her appearance in the closing presentation for AM:IT by Amit Aggarwal. The October 18 grand finale added to a busy season for Lama, whose runway updates also featured Subbah Studio, Anushree Reddy, Samant Chauhan and other labels.
From Emerging Designers to Regional Craft
At NIF Global Presents GenNext, Lama walked for Subbah Studio, one of three emerging labels featured alongside Abhishek Chauhan Studio and Day & Age.
Founded by Kolkata-based designer Nimisha Diwakar, Subbah presented “Hustle & the Hue,” a collection inspired by the city’s Mullick Ghat flower market. Its colours, movement and everyday scenes informed designs rooted in Bengal’s textile traditions.
Hand-painted batik appeared alongside Matka silk, Murshidabad silk and khadi. Kantha embroidery, French knots, beading and aari work added texture and detail.
Lama also shared moments from “The Fifth Season: A Fashion Story from Ladakh,” tagging Zilzom and Namza Couture. Presented by Ladakh’s Department of Industries and Commerce, the showcase brought the region’s textiles and craftsmanship to the runway.
Her other reels featured Shahin Mannan and Siddhartha Bansal, while a separate post highlighted ORCR, Mini Sondhi and Somya Goyal. Together, the updates offered a wider picture of her work throughout the fashion week.
Lama also appeared in posts featuring Yoshita 1967, the label founded by Anil Padia. One of those updates referenced the Circular Design Challenge, where Yoshita 1967 was named runner-up in the 2026 competition supporting circular fashion.
Returning to the Runway That Changed Her Career
Lakmé Fashion Week holds a special place in Lama’s journey. In February 2017, she became the first transgender model to walk at the event, drawing international attention and bringing greater visibility to transgender talent in Indian fashion.
Originally from Nepal’s Nuwakot district, Lama began modelling in Nepal before pursuing opportunities in India. Her breakthrough followed two unsuccessful attempts to secure a place at Lakmé Fashion Week.
That persistence helped take her career beyond the Indian runway. In February 2022, she made her New York Fashion Week debut for Nepali-American designer Prabal Gurung.
Her latest appearances show the career she has continued to build since those milestones. Nearly a decade after her first Lakmé walk, Lama returned with work spanning new designers, regional fashion traditions and the event’s closing show.
