IIFT’s Space and Design Expo Showcases Work by 101 Students at Kathmandu’s City Center

IIFT’s Space and Design Expo brings together 101 interior design students at Kathmandu’s City Center, showcasing café concepts and thesis projects through exhibitions and competitions.

From café concepts to thesis projects, 101 interior design students from IIFT School of Fashion and Interior Design are presenting their work at Kathmandu’s City Center. The two-day Space and Design Expo Seasons 6 and 7, which opened on Saturday, gives visitors a look at how students apply their classroom learning to practical design ideas.

Organized by the school’s Kamaladi branch, the exhibition spans the ground floor through the third floor of City Center in Kamalpokhari. It will remain open until 7 pm on Sunday, according to the organizers.

Former Defence Minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan and Miss Nepal World 2026 Deepmala Dhakal, among other guests, inaugurated the event.

This year’s expo features exhibitions and competitions in two categories: Café Design and Thesis Design. Students are displaying models, creative concepts and interior design projects developed during their studies and training. Outstanding participants will receive awards and cash prizes, the organizers said.

For students, the exhibition offers an opportunity to present their work beyond the classroom and introduce their ideas to people working in the industry.

IIFT Managing Director Phupu Tenzing Sherpa said the event aims to encourage creativity and practical skills while helping students connect with the professional sector. He added that the school’s fashion and interior design education seeks to prepare students for careers and respond to the need for skilled designers in Nepal.

Speaking at the opening, Pradhan said interest in interior design is growing among young people. He highlighted the importance of relevant knowledge and training, and acknowledged Sherpa’s contribution to expanding fashion and interior design education in Nepal.

Dhakal praised the café concepts and other interior design models on display and extended her best wishes to the participating students.

Beyond showcasing academic work, the expo is intended to bring emerging designers closer to potential clients and industry professionals. According to Sherpa, visitors from interior design, construction, hospitality, real estate and entrepreneurship can explore student work and discover new talent.

He said the exhibition could be particularly useful for business owners planning to build or redesign cafés, restaurants, hotels, offices and other commercial spaces. He encouraged designers, construction professionals, entrepreneurs and others from related fields to visit.

A graduation ceremony is also scheduled for Asoj 18 at 4 pm as part of the event, the organizers announced.

IIFT has been organizing exhibitions and competitions to help students develop practical and creative skills alongside their theoretical studies, supporting their preparation for professional work.
