Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar-starrer ‘Unko Sweater’ will release in Telugu as ‘The Woolen Sweater
Nepali Movie ‘Unko Sweater’ is expanding its journey into India’s regional-language market, with Nabin Chauhan’s acclaimed romantic drama set to release in Telugu as ‘The Woolen Sweater.’
Starring Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar, the film originally opened in Nepali cinemas on May 9, 2025. It went on to attract audiences with its intimate love story, memorable music and evocative portrayal of life in the eastern hills of Nepal.
Written and directed by Nabin Chauhan, Unko Sweater marked his feature-film directorial debut and became an important feature project for production house Artmandu.
According to Artmandu, the film celebrated 51 days in theatres across Nepal and India, helping extend its visibility beyond the domestic Nepali market.

Bipin Karki and Miruna Magar’s love story enters a new language market
Set against the multicultural backdrop of Panchthar in eastern Nepal, Unko Sweater follows the relationship between Dharanidhar Kafle, played by Bipin Karki, and Phool Gurung, portrayed by Miruna Magar.
India’s Central Board of Film Certification describes the film as a story built around love, warmth and human connections. Dharanidhar is presented as a skilled mason who inherited his craft from his father.
The CBFC certified the Nepali version of Unko Sweater in November 2025.
The film also features Parikshya Limbu, Alex Paras, Sunil Pokharel, Maotse Gurung, Wilson Bikram Rai, Prem Subba, Menuka Pradhan and Suraj Tamu, among others.
Music and eastern Nepal gave ‘Unko Sweater’ its distinct identity
Music became one of the strongest elements of Unko Sweater and played a major role in its promotional journey.
Songs including ‘Kafle,’ ‘Makhmali,’ ‘Phool’ and ‘Chainejo Jindaganima’ became closely associated with the film and helped build anticipation around its theatrical release.
Beyond its music and romance, the film also stood out for placing the culture, landscapes and everyday life of eastern Nepal at the heart of its visual storytelling.
Rather than relying on a conventional urban backdrop, Unko Sweater brought Panchthar and its cultural textures to the big screen, giving the film a distinctive identity.
Its Telugu release is therefore significant not only for the film but also for the growing possibility of Nepali stories reaching wider Indian audiences through regional-language localisation.
‘The Woolen Sweater’ could introduce Nepali cinema to new audiences
South India is home to one of the world’s most active regional-language film industries, and a Telugu version could introduce Unko Sweater to viewers with limited exposure to contemporary Nepali cinema.
The film has already travelled beyond Nepal, with release records listing screenings in India, the UK and South Korea, including an appearance connected with the Ulsan Ulju Mountain Film Festival.
its combination of romance, music, regional culture and scenic storytelling, the Telugu edition gives the film another opportunity to extend its journey internationally.
‘The Woolen Sweater’ is currently scheduled to release in Telugu on February 19, 2027.
