Apple’s upcoming Hollywood film ‘Tenzing,’ inspired by the life of legendary Himalayan climber Tenzing Norgay, has revealed its first look, placing one of the greatest stories connected to Nepal and Mount Everest (Mount Sagarmatha) at the center of an international cinematic release.

The film stars Genden Phuntsok in the title role as Tenzing Norgay, while Tom Hiddleston portrays New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary. Apple TV Press confirms that the film will open in select theaters on October 9, 2026, before streaming globally on Apple TV from October 16, 2026.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Peedom, ‘Tenzing’ follows the remarkable journey of Tenzing Norgay, the gifted Himalayan climber who, alongside Hillary, became one of the first confirmed climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. The film also features Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt, Caitríona Balfe as Jill Henderson, and Thinley Lhamo as Dawa Norgay.

Apple’s official synopsis presents the story not only as a survival adventure but also as an emotional and spiritual journey. While Western climbers view Everest as a peak to be conquered, the film emphasizes Tenzing’s reverence for Chomolungma, the sacred mother goddess. This perspective gives the film a deeper cultural layer, especially for viewers in Nepal and across the Himalayan region.

The story is rooted in one of mountaineering history’s most iconic moments. On May 29, 1953, Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary reached the summit of Mount Everest as part of the British expedition led by Colonel John Hunt. Their achievement became a defining chapter in global climbing history and remains deeply connected to Nepal’s identity, mountain culture, and tourism imagination.

Reports say the movie was filmed across several locations in Nepal, including the Everest region, Mustang, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Bandipur. While Apple’s current official press material confirms the film and its release plan, the detailed Nepal location list should be treated as production reporting unless further confirmed by Apple or the producers.

For Nepali audiences, ‘Tenzing’ carries special significance. It brings a Himalayan icon to a global platform backed by Apple Original Films, with a cast that includes major international names. Beyond Hollywood appeal, the film could also generate renewed global interest in Nepal’s mountains, heritage sites, Sherpa culture, and cinematic locations.

With its first look now out, ‘Tenzing’ is already attracting attention among movie lovers, Apple TV followers, Tom Hiddleston fans, and audiences interested in Everest stories. For Nepal, the film is more than a mountaineering drama, it is another major moment where Sagarmatha, Himalayan identity, and Nepali landscapes enter the global entertainment spotlight.
