Salman Khan’s much talked about war movie has a new identity. The film once known as Battle of Galwan is now officially titled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.
The makers of the project shared a bold new poster with the updated title and the tagline “May War Rest in Peace.” The change reflects a shift in how the story will be presented to audiences, focusing more on bravery, sacrifice and the human cost of conflict.
Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is inspired by the real life 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers. Salman Khan plays a character based on Colonel B. Santosh Babu, the Indian Army officer who led troops during the brutal border encounter. Chitrangda Singh plays a key role alongside him.
Anoop Bikram Shahi, a well‑known Nepali actor and model, appears in the movie. He is featured alongside Salman in the patriotic track Maatrubhumi, which was released recently.
The film also marked the appearance of Prashant Tamang, the famed Indian Idol Season 3 winner and singer and actor of Nepali origin, before his untimely death in January 2026. Reports say Tamang had a role in the war drama before he passed away.
Another Nepali actor, Aakash Thapa Magar, is also seen in scenes shared on social media and figures among the supporting talents working with the team.
The movie is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced under Salman Khan Films. Music is by Himesh Reshammiya, and the soundtrack includes the romantic track Chand Dekh Lena, which has already generated buzz after a behind‑the‑scenes video was shared online.
The film was initially set to hit theaters on April 17, 2026. But the release has now been pushed, and reports say it may arrive later, possibly around 15 May 2026 or the Independence Day week in August. Fans are still waiting on a final announcement from the makers.
Fans flooded social media when the new title was revealed. Many praised the patriotic tone and message of peace, while some questioned the decision to move away from the original “Battle of Galwan” name. The poster and messages from the team have kept the excitement alive as the film’s release draws closer.
Industry experts say the movie aims to go beyond action. It plans to show the emotional side of soldiers and their families, blending intense war scenes with personal drama on the frontline.
With Salman Khan in a serious role and high expectations from fans, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is shaping up to be one of Bollywood’s most discussed films of 2026.
