A major shock has hit Nepal’s entertainment industry after actor-comedian Sagar Lamsal, widely known as “Bale,” was arrested in connection with a rape allegation.

Lamsal was taken into custody from Budhanilkantha. He is currently being held at the District Police Range, Kathmandu for further investigation.

According to SSP Ramesh Thapa, police have launched a formal probe following a complaint filed by a Nepali woman residing in the United States.

The complainant has stated that she had known Lamsal for over 10 years and considered him like an elder brother (“dai”). She alleges that the incident took place about a year ago in her apartment while Lamsal was in the U.S. for a program.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be made public as the case progresses.

The controversy has already impacted Lamsal’s professional work. Kalarani Films has officially removed him from its upcoming movie Paanch Pandav.

Despite nearly 90% of his scenes already being completed, the production team confirmed that none of his footage will be used in the final version, citing moral concerns. The decision may lead to reshoots and financial setbacks for the project.
Earlier, singer Alina Chauhan and actress Priyanka Karki publicly called for a fair and unbiased investigation. Both stressed the importance of letting the truth come out while standing against victim-blaming.

Singer Alina Chauhan publicly called for a fair investigation. In her social media posts, she urged people to let the truth come out through proper legal process. She stressed that if Lamsal is guilty, he must face strict punishment, and if innocent, he deserves justice. She also highlighted the courage it takes for victims to speak up, warning against toxic online reactions and victim-blaming.

Actress Priyanka Karki echoed similar concerns. She criticized the trend of questioning victims instead of supporting them. Priyanka said it takes “immense courage” to come forward and demanded a fair, unbiased investigation. She urged authorities to ensure justice without influence and called on the public to stand on the side of truth.

Actress Barsha Siwakoti posted a hard-hitting message, reflecting on justice, silence, and society’s mindset. Her post highlights a deeper issue, how victims often struggle to speak, while alleged perpetrators continue life as usual. The line “कसैको मौनता सहमति होइन” (silence is not consent) has especially resonated with many online.

The case has sparked intense discussion online and within the film circle. Many are demanding justice and transparency, while others are urging the public not to jump to conclusions before the investigation is complete.

Sagar Lamsal rose to fame through the hit comedy show Sakkigoni, where his character “Bale” became a popular name. He is also active in music videos and runs his own YouTube platform, Bale Entertainment. In his personal life, he welcomed a baby boy with his wife in April 2025.

One of Nepal’s most recognizable comedy faces is at the center of a legal battle that could change everything.
