Ramayana and Godzilla, Heading for an Unexpected November Box Office Battle
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part One is preparing for a major international theatrical launch, setting the stage for one of 2026’s most intriguing big-screen showdowns.
The Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash-starrer will begin its international rollout on November 6, 2026, placing it directly opposite Takashi Yamazaki’s highly anticipated Godzilla Minus Zero in several major overseas markets. Ramayana is then scheduled to arrive in India on November 8, coinciding with Diwali Sunday.
The international date was highlighted alongside the English-language trailer for Ramayana, reinforcing the makers’ ambition to introduce the Indian epic to audiences far beyond its traditional market. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.
Ramayana Takes a Two-Date Diwali Release Strategy
Unlike a conventional simultaneous global opening, Ramayana: Part One is currently set for a staggered release.
International audiences are expected to get the film from November 6, while its Indian theatrical release is set for November 8. India’s 2026 holiday calendar lists Diwali on Sunday, November 8, giving the film a major festival-day launch at home.
The distinction is important, particularly after earlier reports and promotional material created some uncertainty around whether November 6 would serve as the film’s worldwide release date.
Internationally, however, the November 6 opening gives Ramayana a prominent position across the Diwali weekend, particularly in markets with substantial Indian and South Asian audiences.

November 6 Has a Personal Connection for Ranbir Kapoor
The international release date also carries a special personal connection for Ranbir Kapoor.
November 6 is the birthday of his daughter Raha Kapoor. Earlier this year, when a fan pointed out that Ramayana was expected to arrive around Raha’s birthday, Ranbir described the timing as a “beautiful coincidence.”
For the actor, one of the biggest theatrical projects of his career will therefore begin its global journey on an already memorable family date.
Ramayana vs Godzilla Minus Zero on November 6
The bigger box-office story could unfold internationally.
Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus Zero will open in Japan on November 3, 2026, before beginning its North American theatrical release on November 6. IMAX also lists November 6 as the film’s release date.
That creates an unusual cinematic face-off in overlapping markets: one film brings one of India’s most revered epics to the big screen on an enormous scale, while the other continues Japan’s globally recognised Godzilla franchise.
It is a box-office matchup that practically writes its own tagline: Gods vs Monsters.
IMAX Could Add Another Dimension to the Clash
The competition becomes even more interesting when premium-format screens enter the picture.
Prime Focus Studios says Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX and developed for a worldwide audience. The production has been positioned as a large-scale theatrical experience from the beginning.
Godzilla Minus Zero is also being positioned as a major IMAX attraction, making premium large-format screens potentially important to both releases.
There has been no official announcement detailing how IMAX screens will be divided between the films in markets where their releases overlap. Any suggestion of a confirmed screen battle would therefore be premature.
Still, the shared November 6 date could eventually force exhibitors to make significant decisions over premium auditoriums, showtimes and opening-weekend capacity.

Ramayana Is Being Built for a Global Audience
The international rollout reflects producer Namit Malhotra’s larger ambition for Ramayana.
Sony Pictures is handling the film’s international release, while Dharma Productions is distributing it across North India’s Hindi-speaking markets. Prime Focus Studios has consistently presented the project as an Indian story created with global theatrical audiences in mind.
The talent behind the project underlines that ambition.
Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, the cast includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana. Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman are collaborating on the music.
A Massive Diwali Weekend Is Taking Shape
Whether Ramayana and Godzilla Minus Zero ultimately compete for the same audience or attract very different groups of moviegoers will become clearer closer to their releases.
For now, November 6 is emerging as one of the most fascinating international theatrical dates on the 2026 calendar.
For Ranbir Kapoor, the day also carries an unusually personal connection. For the makers of Ramayana, the larger challenge is whether one of India’s most familiar and culturally significant stories can become the kind of worldwide theatrical event they have spent years building.
And for movie fans, Diwali week could offer a spectacularly unlikely choice: Rama and Ravana on one screen. Godzilla on another.
