Nagma Shrestha ready for Miss Universe

Nagma Shrestha, who was announced Miss Nepal Universe recently, is all set to fly to the USA for the 66th Miss Universe international pageant to be held on November 26, in Las Vegas. Shrestha shared her plans and preparation for the event in a press meet organized by The Hidden Treasure.

Speaking at the event, Gopal Sundar Lal Kakshapati, MD of The Hidden Treasure said, “Nagma has had limited time to prepare for the event and I am astounded by the effort she has made.” He added, “We have high expectations from Nagma. We hope that Nagma will win this prestigious title, and return with full enthusiasm and rich experience.”

The event saw a behind-the-scene presentation of Shrestha’s preparation alongside the exhibition of costumes designed for her by Nepali designers for the international pageant. Astik Sherchan, Subexya Bhadel, Mishu Shrestha, Siwangi Pradhan, and Antee Gurung, among others, are few designers whose designs she will flaunt in Las Vegas.

The main highlight of the event was the handmade ethnic costume which constituted a shimmering white gown designed by Bina Ghale that Shrestha will pair with a handmade head-gear designed by sculptor Vijay Maharjan. The metal head gear is a sculpted Mandala that weighs 3kg. According to the designers, the costumes were designed keeping in mind the spirituality, purity, and peace.

Vijay Maharjan, who is a specialised Mandala sculptor, said, “When people think of Nepal, they think of Mt Everest, but is it all that defines us?” adding, “When I first met Nagma and noticed her goddess-like poise, it just clicked. I just knew that she’s the one woman who would do the head-gear representative of Nepali tradition any justice with her grace.”

A professional team, consisting of trainers from various fields, was dedicated in training Shrestha for the pageant. Amit Chandra Arya, Dieja Shrestha, and Samyak Udas led the fitness training and nutrition, whereas Sakil Kunwar was in-charge of her grooming.

Speaking at the event, Shrestha said, “I realised my true potential when I made it to the top 4 at Miss Earth 2012. That was when I knew that if given more time, I could achieve better heights.” She further added that she understands there is a huge responsibility on her shoulder. “I am sure my Nepali values accompanied by my four Ps patience, persistence, perseverance and passion, will make me stand out among rest of the contestants,” Nagma concluded.
