Nepali social drama Gauthali has won Best Foreign Film in the World Film Festival in Cannes’ October 2026 competition. Director Dr. Kapil Rijal celebrated the achievement with an emotional tribute to his father, Dr. Bhola Rijal, whose musical film inspired the new production. Starring Arun Chhetri and Simran Khadka, Gauthali has completed 100 days in cinemas and reported domestic earnings exceeding NPR 26 crore. The award follows Rijal’s RED Movie Awards directing honour and the film’s selection for Beijing Lift-Off.
