Dayahang Rai with debut actress Sanskriti Gurung in Nepali Movie ‘Buki Phool’
Actor Dayahang Rai has begun shooting for his upcoming Nepali film ‘Buki Phool’ in Sikles, the scenic tourist village of Kaski. The film pairs Rai with Sanskriti Gurung, who is making her acting debut, in a story rooted in the history, culture and social life of the Gurung community.
The film officially went on floors following a traditional muhurat ceremony on Thursday. Filmmaker Nabin Subba, Madi Rural Municipality–1 ward chair Devi Jung Gurung, members of the cast and local residents attended the muhurat ceremony.
Directed by Om Prakash Gurung, ‘Buki Phool’ is based on a concept by producer Bed Bahadur Gurung ‘Shyam’, who is also a member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly.
The project also marks the return of his banner, Abhiyan Films, to Nepali feature-film production after nearly a decade.
Set against the historical and cultural backdrop of the Gurung community, most of the film will be shot in Sikles and surrounding areas.
Alongside Dayahang and Sanskriti, the film features Pushkar Gurung, Prakash Ghimire, Kabita Ale Magar, Maya Gurung, Bishwas Gurung, Rajesh Gurung, Anserj Gurung, Tikaram Ghale, Osin Gurung, Lalshobha Gurung, Man Bahadur Gurung and Bed Bahadur Gurung ‘Shyam’, among others.

Sanskriti Gurung Makes Her Acting Debut
‘Buki Phool’ marks Sanskriti Gurung’s first appearance as an actress, with Dayahang Rai playing opposite her.
Before stepping into acting, Sanskriti had been active in modelling and had also worked as an assistant director on several films.
Speaking at the launch, filmmaker Nabin Subba said ‘Buki Phool’ has the potential to become an important cinematic document of the Gurung community if its story and production are handled effectively.
He also noted that strong filmmaking and presentation could give the project the potential to compete in the international market.
Reflecting on Nepali cinema more broadly, Subba said the industry has been gradually improving, while stressing the need for filmmakers to pay greater attention to both subject matter and presentation.
A Dream Project Inspired by Stories From Earlier Generations
Producer Bed Bahadur Gurung described ‘Buki Phool’ as his dream project. He said the film grew out of stories and experiences he had heard from earlier generations and that the project aims to bring elements of Gurung history, culture and lifestyle to the screen.
Director Om Prakash Gurung said the film will be made with close attention to its historical setting, with the storytelling and visual presentation shaped around the demands of the narrative.
Susan Prajapati is handling cinematography, while Taranath Neupane serves as chief assistant director. The production team plans to complete filming within 35 days.
The title ‘Buki Phool’ refers to a fragrant flower found in high-altitude regions. According to the production team, the film will combine the local landscape, Gurung culture and traditions with a love story at its centre.
