Three day affair related to shine, spark, beauty and allure of Nepal Gems and Jewelry has started off. Information and Communications Minister Minendra Rijal inaugurated Nepal Gems and Jewellery Expo 2014 in Kathmandu at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Durbarmarg. Three day expo started on Friday, 7th of November 2014 and would last till 9th of November 2014, Sunday. The expo would bring 35 exhibitors, showcasing a wide variety of jewelers designed in Nepal.
With the theme of ´Taking Nepalese Jewelry Globally’, the organizer of the expo, Nepal Gem and Jewelry Association (NEGJA) , the event is claimed to be crucial to disseminate information about jewelry industry, purity and quality of jewelries to general public as well as to introduce new designs. The exhibition is also aimed to promote traditional Nepali jewelry products, establish local brands in domestic as well as international markets.
The organizers are expecting participation of around 12,000 visitors within the exhibition period whereas transactions up to Rs 200 million is expected in the expo. Entry fee for the expo has been fixed at Rs 150 per person. To mark the official start off of the expo, on 5th of November 2014, a grand jewelry show was been showcased which saw the special appearance of Bollywood Actress Raveena Tandon as the show stopper of the event.
Meanwhile, an agreement has been signed between the Nepal Gem and Jewelry Association and Solitaire Gemological Laboratory of UAE. The Laboratory will provide technical assistance to the Association. NEGJA is also taking part in Indian Gems and Jewelry Expo that is scheduled to be held in Calcutta in the month of January 2015.
