Nepali cinema has achieved a historic milestone at the globally renowned Cannes Film Festival. Director Abinash Bikram Shah’s film ‘Elephants in the Fog‘ won the prestigious Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section, marking one of the biggest international recognitions ever received by a Nepali film at Cannes.

The achievement has created excitement across Nepal’s film industry and among cinema lovers worldwide. Cannes is considered one of the most influential film festivals in the world, and winning an award on its stage is seen as a major breakthrough for any filmmaker.

Abinash Bikram Shah Brings Historic Cannes Victory to Nepal

This is not the first time Abinash Bikram Shah has been recognized at Cannes. His short film ‘Lori’ had previously earned a Special Mention award at the festival, establishing him as one of Nepal’s most promising filmmakers on the global stage. With ‘Elephants in the Fog,’ Shah has further strengthened Nepal’s presence in international cinema.

The top Un Certain Regard Prize this year went to Austrian filmmaker Sandra Wollner for her film ‘Everytime.’ Meanwhile, the Special Jury Prize was awarded to French director Louis Clichy for ‘Iron Boy.’

In the acting categories, Bradley Fiomona Dembeaset won the Best Actor award for his performance in ‘Congo Boy,’ directed by Rafiki Fariala. The Best Actress award was jointly presented to Marina de Tavira, Daniela Marin Navarro, and Mariengel Villegas for their performances in ‘Siempre Soy Tu Animal Materno,’ directed by Valentina Maurel.
