YouTube superstar MrBeast has found his “MrsBeast.” The creator, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has married South African gamer and author Thea Booysen in a private island ceremony that traded his trademark internet spectacle for an intimate celebration with family and close friends.

The couple hosted approximately 70 guests at Necker Island, Richard Branson’s private Caribbean resort in the British Virgin Islands. The celebration began on July 14 and continued for a week, combining the wedding with outdoor activities, shared meals and relaxed time among the people closest to the couple.

Donaldson announced the marriage on Instagram by sharing photographs from the ceremony and writing that he had found “MrsBeast,” describing the occasion as the best day of his life. The post quickly turned the wedding into a major global entertainment and social-media story.

The announcement ended days of online speculation surrounding the couple’s wedding plans. Before the official post, several reports had interpreted Donaldson’s playful social-media messages as possible clues that the ceremony was imminent. Those claims remained unconfirmed until the couple released their wedding photographs.

Despite MrBeast’s reputation for enormous productions, elaborate challenges and attention-grabbing giveaways, the wedding was designed as a personal event rather than a piece of content.

Around 70 family members and friends reportedly attended. A family friend who is an ordained minister conducted the ceremony, helping the couple maintain the warm and private atmosphere they had discussed since their engagement.

Only professional wedding photography was planned, according to the couple’s earlier comments. Donaldson had repeatedly said that he did not want the event turned into a large public spectacle or televised production.

Booysen walked down the aisle in a custom gown by Nicole + Felicia Couture. Her bridal styling was handled by Jeremy Noig, with hair by Mikey Lu and makeup by Lola’s Beauty Mark. Her bridal robe came from Banke Kuku.

Donaldson wore a classic tuxedo by Ralph Lauren, bringing a traditional formal look to the tropical island ceremony.

Celebrity wedding planner Marcy Blum reportedly oversaw the week’s festivities, while On the Move Entertainment provided music and live entertainment.

First Dance and Wedding Menu

After exchanging vows, the newlyweds entered the reception and shared their first dance to “Die With a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars.

The reception menu featured a broad selection of food, including sushi, Wagyu beef and fish. Instead of choosing a more traditional flavour, the couple selected carrot cake (Booysen’s favourite) for their wedding cake.

Guests danced to a live band before continuing the celebration at the island’s main house. Booysen said the late-night gathering included card games and board games, reflecting the couple’s shared interest in gaming and quieter social activities.

A Week of Island Activities

The wedding was more than a single-day ceremony. Guests spent several days enjoying activities such as snorkelling and kitesurfing. They also interacted with animals living on the island, including lemurs and kangaroos.

Booysen described the experience as deeply joyful, explaining that the couple’s demanding work schedules rarely allow them to gather their families and friends in one place.

The newlyweds reportedly enjoyed the experience so much that they discussed organising a similar week with loved ones every year.

How MrBeast and Thea Booysen Met

Donaldson and Booysen met in South Africa in 2022 after a mutual friend invited her to join a dinner. Donaldson had been visiting the country when unexpected travel circumstances extended his stay.

Booysen later recalled being surprised by how down-to-earth and intellectually curious he was. The two connected over science, books, learning and content creation. Donaldson contacted her after returning to the United States, and they eventually began a long-distance relationship.

They made an early public appearance together at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in April 2022.

Their Christmas Engagement

MrBeast proposed on Christmas Day 2024 at their home, surrounded by both families. He reportedly created a distraction by dropping a large box before presenting the actual ring and getting down on one knee.

The private proposal reflected the couple’s broader approach to their relationship. Although Donaldson regularly produces some of the internet’s biggest spectacles, he wanted his engagement and wedding to remain centred on family.

Booysen, also known online as TheaBeasty, is a South African gamer, streamer, esports commentator and writer. She began streaming card-based games in 2016 and is associated with South Africa’s esports industry.

She published the young-adult fantasy novel The Marked Children in 2022. She also holds academic qualifications in law and psychology and completed a master’s degree in human cognitive neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh.

A Surprisingly Low-Key Wedding for an Internet Giant

The strongest talking point surrounding the wedding is its contrast with MrBeast’s public image.

His videos are known for enormous prizes, elaborate sets and large-scale challenges. Yet for one of the most important moments of his private life, Donaldson chose a small guest list, limited cameras and a secluded island.
