Directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, ‘Elephants in the Fog’ is scheduled to premiere at Cannes on May 20, followed by its official red carpet appearance on May 21. The film has already created history by becoming the first Nepali narrative feature film ever selected for the Cannes Film Festival.

Abinash Bikram Shah previously received special recognition at Cannes in 2022 for his short film ‘Lori’. He had also collaborated on the screenplay of ‘Shambhala’, directed by Min Bahadur Bham, which was screened in the main competition section at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival.

Set in a small village surrounded by dense forests in Nepal, ‘Elephants in the Fog’ tells the story of a community living under the constant fear of wild elephants. At the center of the story is Pirati, a leader from the transgender community, who dreams of living a simple and peaceful life with the man she loves.

However, after a young girl from the community suddenly disappears, Pirati is forced to begin a search that changes her life forever. During this journey, she must choose between her personal love and her responsibility toward her community.
