Censor Board Suspends ‘Koshedhunga’ Screenings Over Rule Violation

The Censor Board has ordered all screenings of Koshedhunga to stop, citing censorship violations. The film’s producers have yet to respond to the suspension.

The Central Board of Film Censor Committee (CBFCC) has suspended the public screening of Koshedhunga, a Nepali film directed by Saroj Poudel, citing a violation of censorship regulations.

Board member Sampanna Shrestha confirmed the decision, saying it was made after the film failed to follow the board’s directive issued earlier in October. The board had reportedly asked the producers to submit a written explanation within 24 hours but received no response. During a follow-up meeting, the committee requested the Film Development Board to stop all public showings of Koshedhunga until further notice.

The film, starring Niti Shah, Surakshya Panta, Reecha Sharma, and Aaryan Sigdel, had been one of the most talked-about Nepali releases of the year. It was earlier cleared for a universal audience and set to screen in more than 40 countries under the banner of Naradevi Films.

The movie tells the emotional story of Sital (a main character of the film), a woman navigating the love, struggle, and the survival after her husband went for abroad work. With this strong social message and powerful performances of actors, Koshedhunga had received early praise from viewers during its initial screenings.

Producer Kishor Anurag recently shared on social media that the film “touched audiences deeply” and moved many to tears. However, the production team has yet to issue an official statement regarding the suspension.

The sudden suspension of Koshedhunga has once again flashed about how the films are reviewed and regulated in Nepal. The lack of clarity from both the Censor Board and the filmmakers leaves audiences in confusion and that’s never healthy for the film industry to grow globally.

The Censor Board still has not specified which rule is violated. Fans and the Nepali film community are in puzzle! Questioning why a film that was already approved, now suddenly halted.

The suspension has raised a new argument for creative freedom, transparency, and responsibility in Nepal’s film industry.

As of now, Koshedhunga remains off-screen and audiences are waiting to see whether the filmmakers will appeal or comply with the board’s demands to bring back the movie in cinemas again.

Koshedhunga had the potential to focus Nepali storytelling on international stage, emotion with social reality. The condition highlights the critical need for transparency, communication, and a fair review system that agree to creative voices to thrive while respecting national standards.

For now, movie lovers hoping that the board and the production team find familiar opinion soon. So Koshedhunga can return in the big screen again very soon.
