Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ Title Conflict with Malayalam Film

Rajinikanth’s film ‘Jailer’ is now facing a clash with a Malayalam film in Kerala. Malayalam film also titled ‘Jailer’ is scheduled for release around the same time, raising concerns about potential confusion among audiences.

The release of Rajinikanth’s highly-anticipated film, ‘Jailer’, is approaching, generating immense excitement among fans. With its star-studded cast and substantial budget, the movie is poised to break box office records. However, the film has become entangled in controversy due to its title. Another Malayalam film, also titled ‘Jailer’, is scheduled for release around the same time, raising concerns about potential confusion among audiences.

The Malayalam ‘Jailer’ is a period thriller featuring Dhyan Sreenivasan, directed by Sakkir Madathil, and produced by N K Mohammad. Despite the distinct differences in their storylines, the creators of the Malayalam film have expressed worries about the identical titles and have requested a title change, at least within the state of Kerala.

However, the makers of Rajinikanth’s film are reluctant to alter the title, even within a single state, as revealed by Sakkir Madathil during a press conference. Sun Pictures, the production company behind Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, released an official statement stating their inability to change the title. They emphasized that the film features a much larger star and the company itself is a corporate entity. They believe that altering the title would have no impact on the film’s ticket sales.

The team behind the Malayalam film argues that, being a smaller production, they should be allowed to retain the title, as they are already at a disadvantage. They also highlight that the film ‘Jailer’ stars Mohanlal, one of the biggest stars in Malayalam cinema, and changing the title would not affect its box office collections.

‘Jailer’ is an action-packed entertainer written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Rajinikanth plays the lead role, supported by Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah, and Vinayakan. Mohanlal makes a cameo appearance in the film, adopting a retro role for his character. Similarly, Shiva Rajkumar will also make a cameo appearance.

Produced by Sun Pictures on a grand scale, ‘Jailer’ boasts a musical score composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Cinematographer Vijay Karthik Kannan and editor R Nirmal contribute their expertise to the film’s technical crew.
