Nepali Movie director Dipa Basnet has been honored by the India-based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT University).
On the occasion of the Republic Day of India, Basnet was appointed an international counselor to the university. During the ceremony, director Basent described a brief introduction of the Nepali film industry.
Addressing the function, founder of the university Dr Achyut Samanta said that Basnet was appointed to the post as she has received education about film direction and also produced films on different social issues.
Dipa Basnet has already directed Nepali films ‘Antaral’ and ‘Shree Paanch Ambare’. She is the “first female director” to direct two Nepali movies.
She made her directorial debut through ‘Antaral’ that was appreciated by critics, but it failed to perform at the box office.
She also won the ‘Best Director’ award at the ‘D Cine Award‘. She reportedly was frustrated by the politics of release and holdover in theater and told that she wouldn’t direct another movie.
But, the producers of ‘Shree Paanch Ambare’ convinced Dipa to direct another movie.
