signing ceremony held with Undersecretary Ram Krishna Aryal (Ministry) and Chairperson Dinesh DC (Film Development Board).
In a historic move for the arts, the Nepal government has officially committed Rs.30 million grant to the under construction ‘Cinepa’ studio in Banepa. The agreement, signed between the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Film Development Board, signals a major investment in the technological future of the Nepali film industry.
The agreement was formally inked by Undersecretary Ram Krishna Aryal from the ministry and Film Development Board Chairperson Dinesh DC. This grant is strategically aimed at strengthening the physical infrastructure of Nepali cinema by establishing a modern studio complex that will house advanced facilities for cinematography, sound recording, editing, and visual effects (VFX).
Chairperson Dinesh DC hailed the project as a transformative leap, stating, “This will mark a new take off for the Nepali film industry. The project stands as an investment in the future.” He emphasized that the studio is designed to enhance the sector’s technological capacity, provide integrated services to filmmakers, and enable Nepali films to compete on an international level.
A key outcome of the ‘Cinepa’ studio will be to provide all essential technical resources within the country. This initiative is expected to eliminate the need for Nepali filmmakers to travel abroad for expensive post-production work, significantly reducing overall production costs.
Once completed, the studio will serve as a dedicated production hub for domestic projects, contributing to long-term sector growth, job creation, and the development of local expertise, ultimately fostering a more robust and self reliant film ecosystem in Nepal.
The signing ceremony was also attended by accounts officer Prabhakar Bhattarai and planning officer Girish Sharma from the Film Development Board.
