One of Nepal’s most loved evergreen melodies, “Sindhuli Gadhi Ghumera Herdā Suntali Mai”, has been brought back to life after 46 years in a brand-new remake version.
The original song, penned, composed, and sung by the late Krishna Bikram Thapa, was first recorded at Radio Nepal in 1979 (2036 BS) and went on to win the top prize at the time. Now, the timeless classic has been revived by his eldest son Raju Thapa, with re-arrangement by Ruvin Kumar Shrestha.
Carrying deep historical and cultural essence, the song celebrates Sindhuli Gadhi – a historic fortress known for Nepal’s victory against the British in the 18th century – while also holding strong musical significance in Nepali folk-pop heritage.

The music video for the remake has been beautifully shot in various scenic locations of Sindhuli district, capturing the natural charm and heritage of the region. Featuring Ramesh Bishwakarma and Deepsa Karki in lead roles, the video also stars Pawan KC, Satya Devi, Pavitra Ramtel, and Kaji Thapa. Cinematography is by Basu Baral, and direction by Kranty KC.
With its revival after more than four decades, the song is expected to reconnect the younger generation with the cultural and musical roots of Sindhuli, while paying tribute to one of Nepal’s iconic music creators.
