Amrit Gurung, lead vocalist of the renowned Nepali folk-rock band Nepathya, has spoken out strongly against the government after security forces opened fire on youth-led protests.
In a Facebook post, Gurung expressed his outrage, writing:“Shame on those who gave the order to shoot at our younger generation.”

At least 19 people were killed and dozens injured on Monday when police used live ammunition to disperse demonstrators. The protests, spearheaded by Gen-Z, have swept across Nepal with demands for an end to corruption, criticism of the extravagant lifestyles of political elites’ children, and calls for freedom of expression.
The government’s violent crackdown has drawn widespread condemnation from civil society, human rights activists, and celebrities. Nepathya, a band often seen as the voice of social change, has joined in denouncing the brutality.
Just before the protests escalated, the band had already shown solidarity by sharing their iconic protest anthem “Gau Gau Bata Utha” (Rise from Every Village) on social media, rallying youth and citizens alike.
Gurung’s message has since gone viral, fueling growing anger against what many are calling one of the darkest moments in Nepal’s democratic history.
