Mumbai Mafia: Police vs The Underworld is a new documentary film explores a time in the 1990s when the city of Mumbai, India was overwhelmed by gang violence. In response to this, the government formed elite police squads with the mandate to use force, including the controversial shoot-on-sight orders, in order to restore order to the city.
The trailer for the documentary features a combination of archival footage and interviews with the police officers and experts who were involved in the efforts to bring stability to Mumbai.
Mumbai is the financial capital of India and is also home to the Bollywood film industry, so the impact of the gang violence was significant. One of the most well-known figures from this time period was Dawood Ibrahim, the head of a criminal organization called the D-Company. Ibrahim is still wanted for his alleged involvement in the Mumbai bombings and remains at large to this day.
Directed by Raaghav Dar and Francis Longhurst documentary film promises to offer a comprehensive look into this tumultuous period in the city’s history and the efforts to restore peace. It will feature the perspectives of those who were directly involved in the efforts to combat the gang violence, as well as expert analysis on the events of the time.
