The King of Pop Michael Jackson is coming back to the big screen in a way, fans have never seen before. Michael, the much awaited biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua, stars Jaafar Jackson. Jaafar has already become one of next year’s most talked for films.
Jaafar Jackson is the real-life nephew of Michael Jackson, son of Michael’s brother Jermaine Jackson. He has grabbed global attention with his supernatural similarity to his uncle, from his look to his voice and stage energy. The young performer’s teaser clips have already gone viral, with fans calling him ‘the perfect fit’ for the role.
Michael Jackson Estate supported to produce ‘Michael’. The film tells the story of the pop legend’s life, from his early Jackson 5 days to a global superstar. The film also explores the musical brilliance, personal challenges, and the moments that defined Michael Jackson’s journey.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, known for Training Day and Emancipation is written by John Logan, known for films like Gladiator and Skyfall.
The film also features Juliano Krue Valdi as Young Michael Jackson, Coleman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Judah Edwards and Rhyan Hill as Tito Jackson, Jaylen Lyndon Hunter and Tre Horton as Marlon Jackson, Nathaniel Logan McIntyre and Joseph David-Jones as Jackie Jackson, Jayden Harville and Jamal R Henderson as Jermaine Jackson, Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross among others.
According to The Wrap, production was carried out on a massive amount with a budget reportedly over $150 million, aiming to recreate the biggest highlights of Michael’s legendary performances from Thriller to Billie Jean and beyond.
The first teaser released on 6th November 2025. Teaser shows Jaafar’s moon-walking on the stage and performing the iconic Billie Jean number. Fans respect his graceful transformation, while critics highlighted the film’s emotional tone and visual splendor.
However, reports suggest that some family members expressed concern about certain portrayals, revealing creative differences behind the scenes.
Michael Jackson’s music, dance, and humanitarian work still inspire millions worldwide. Having a family member Jaafar Jackson on screen, his spirit makes the film ‘Michael’ another super biopic. This film is a heartfelt tribute to the man who changed music forever.
Lionsgate will release Michael in U.S. cinemas and Universal Pictures will handle the international release on April 24, 2026.
