Mahesh Babu Roars as Rudhra: SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi Title Teaser Sets Global Stage on Fire

SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi Title Teaser introduces Mahesh Babu’s First Look as Rudhra, where fans finally meet him in his most ferocious avatar.

SS Rajamouli is back with another spectacle, and the first title teaser of ‘Varanasi’ proves he’s once again raising the bar for Indian cinema. The filmmaker, who reshaped global expectations with ‘Baahubali ‘and ‘RRR’, unveiled the trailer at a massive Globetrotter event at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, drawing an unbelievable crowd of nearly 50,000 fans, media, and international delegates.

Rajamouli shared the title teaser on X with a bold promise “Here you go… VARANASI to the WORLD…” and the footage lives up to that ambition.

The title teaser opens in 512 CE, offering a mystical glimpse of ancient Varanasi, before suddenly leaping to 2027 CE, where Earth faces a potential catastrophe as asteroid Shambhavi hurtles toward the planet. The scale grows bigger with every cut, from the icy voids of Antarctica to the wild deserts of Africa, before diving thousands of years back to 72,000 BCE, where viewers witness a powerful tease of Lord Hanuman.

The highlight arrives at Manikarnika Ghat, where fans finally meet Mahesh Babu in his most ferocious avatar yet. Entering on a white bull, gripping a massive trident, Rudhra storms onto the screen with a presence that instantly positions him as Rajamouli’s next unforgettable hero.

The poster released alongside the title teaser amplifies that energy-sand flying, bull charging, and Mahesh Babu unleashing raw fury. It’s already dominating fan conversations.

Revealing a stylish character poster, the makers surprised fans with a fierce new look of Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini. Draped in a yellow saree, firing rounds with icy confidence, she delivers a striking mix of elegance and firepower. Her role is expected to be crucial in the film’s global adventure theme, a perfect fit for the international superstar.

Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran steps in as Kumbha, the film’s primary antagonist. His brief appearance in the trailer oozes intensity, hinting at a morally complex villain who could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Rajamouli’s most memorable antagonists.

While the teaser has generated explosive excitement, a segment of viewers online has labeled it “underwhelming.” Yet, the scale, ambition, and world-building teased here suggest a cinematic universe far bigger than the early reactions capture. Rajamouli’s films are known for long-term impact, not instant impressions, and ‘Varanasi’ appears no different.

Touted as a ‘globetrotter,’ ‘Varanasi’ follows Rudhra, Mandakini, and Kumbha across continents and timelines in a story that blends mythology, sci-fi, history, and Rajamouli-style cinematic madness.

SS Rajamouli’s next movie titled, ‘Varanasi’ is set to release in January 2027.
