The most popular Nepali film franchise, Kabaddi, is officially making a grand return with its fifth installment ‘Kabaddi 5: After the Final Match’. The production has begun with a traditional muhurat ceremony in Mustang, marking the continuation of one of Nepal’s most iconic cinematic sagas.

Executive producer Maniram Pokharel revealed that filming commenced at the sacred Muktinath Temple, where the team performed script and camera rituals before shooting the first scene in Larjung village.

Helmed once again by director Ram Babu Gurung, ‘Kabaddi 5’ brings back many beloved faces, including Dayahang Rai (Kaji), Miruna Magar (Maiya), Bijay Baral, Buddhi Tamang, and Aruna Karki. Joining the legacy for the first time are acclaimed actor Bipin Karki, known for his versatility in Nepali cinema, and Srijana Gurung, Miss UK Nepal 2017, who makes her debut in the Kabaddi universe.

The film is set for a 35-day shooting schedule, primarily across the breathtaking Mustang region, with additional scenes to be filmed in Kathmandu.

Co-written by Ram Babu Gurung and Upendra Subba, the storyline promises to maintain the series’ signature blend of humor, heart, and Himalayan culture that has captivated audiences since the original Kabaddi premiered in 2014.

While ‘Kabaddi 4: The Final Match’ was thought to be the conclusion of the saga, ‘Kabaddi 5’ reignites fan excitement, bringing back cherished characters, introducing new dynamics, and hinting at deeper emotional layers. Though the release date hasn’t been confirmed, industry buzz suggests a possible late 2026 premiere.

The stunning Mustang landscapes, with their dramatic Himalayan backdrops, remain a visual hallmark of the Kabaddi franchise, and ‘Kabaddi 5’ appears ready to uphold that cinematic legacy with even greater depth and energy.
