Elephants in the Fog (Tiniharu) Musical Trailer Blends a Mother’s Despair, Mystery and Folk Rhythm

The musical trailer of ‘Tiniharu: Elephants in the Fog’ offers a haunting glimpse into a story shaped by loss, fear and a mother’s desperate search for her missing daughter.

Set against a catchy, folk-inspired track, the video captures the emotional turmoil of its central characters while gradually unfolding the tension surrounding the disappearance of a girl named Apsara.

The trailer shows the mother pleading with the police to help find her daughter. As suspicion begins to grow even among relatives, her search becomes increasingly painful and isolating. Her frustration, helplessness and anger form the emotional core of the video.

The story unfolds in a village living under the constant threat of wild elephants. Although the fear caused by the animals is strongly felt throughout the trailer, the elephants themselves are deliberately kept out of sight. Their absence adds to the mystery and creates a lingering sense of danger.

Alongside its emotional drama, the musical trailer features energetic dance sequences performed by members of the transgender community. The song carries influences of Bhojpuri folk music, with its lively rhythm creating a striking contrast to the darker events unfolding in the story.

A brief scene resembling a ritual sacrifice further deepens the suspense. The combination of a missing child, a frightened village and unexplained rituals leaves several questions unanswered, encouraging viewers to look beyond the music and search for clues within the visuals.

The featured song has lyrics by Love Karna and vocals by Shivani Bhagat and Dev Ahirrao.

Directed by Avinash Bikram Shah, ‘Tiniharu: Elephants in the Fog’ tells the story of a minority community living in a settlement affected by the terror of wild elephants.

The film stars Gauri Malla, Maotse Gurung, Pushpa Thing Lama, Deepika Yadav, Jasmin Bishwakarma, Eliz Ghimire, Mahima Nawbaga and Akanksha Karki, among others.

The screenplay is written by Avinash Bikram Shah, while the story is credited to Shah and Sandeep Badal.

The film is an international co-production involving production companies from Nepal, France, Germany, Brazil and Norway. It received the Jury Choice Award at the Cannes Film Festival, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release in Nepal on Bhadra 19.

Avinash Bikram Shah previously won recognition at Cannes for his short film ‘Lori’. He is also known for his screenwriting work on ‘Kalo Pothi,’ ‘Shambhala’ and the limited television series ‘Singha Durbar.’
