The Sri Lanka Sophistication by Sharada Pyatha


This creative presentation reflects Sri Lanka, a very beautiful island with a rich and ancient history and culture. It is a two piece dress, upper part being blouse and the lower part is dome shaped skirt with four layers of frills at the bottom.

SHARADA PYATHA | THE SRI LANKAN SOPHISTICATION

The blouse made from brocade fabric is inspired from the traditional dress of Sri Lanka that is worn while performing cultural dance. The bottom part of the dress is made from white silver brocade fabric and sleeve is made from yellow golden brocade in mutton sleeve design. Red velvet piece of fabric with golden laced border is placed around the neckline and yellow golden fabric embroidered by stones is worn overlapping the red velvet fabric.

Lower part of the dress is dome shaped from waist to knee length and below the knee four layers of yellow, green, orange, and maroon colored satin frills are used till the floor length. Dome shape is inspired from the Rankot Vihara (UNESCO world heritage site).

The bottom frills are inspired from the Sri Lanka flag. Yellow color represent unity of Sri Lanka, green represents Muslim faith and ethnicity, Orange represents Tamil ethnicity and Maroon represents the Sinhalese ethnic majority. Red embroidered velvet waist band is taken from the traditional dress. Headgear is inspired by Hindu temple of Damballa history of Sri Lanka.
