Ivory fabric, sweeping sleeves and gold embroidery give Shakti Prabha a commanding presence in the latest preview for Namuna College of Fashion Technology’s Journey of Fashion XXI. Inspired by Goddess Durga’s shakti, the look expresses protection and power through a sculpted silhouette.

The design starts with a fitted corset that has the presence of armour. Gold patterns run across its ivory surface, drawing the eye toward a trident-inspired motif at the front. Below the waist, the dress follows a mermaid shape before opening into a wider hem with more elaborate gold detailing.

Long sleeves fall from the upper arms in soft cascades. They bring movement to the look and create a striking change from the structured corset. In the designers’ concept, that movement represents an aura of energy extending beyond the body.

The colour choice carries part of the story, too. Ivory expresses purity, while the gold detailing suggests divinity. The trishul, or trident, is used as a symbol of protection, power and the triumph of light. Together, those elements give the design a spiritual theme while its shape remains firmly rooted in contemporary couture.

The photographs place the model before an intricately carved gateway. A full-length frame shows how the narrow silhouette opens at the hem, while closer portraits reveal the corset’s sculpted edges and the sleeves’ flowing layers. The architectural setting adds depth to the images without taking attention away from the garment.

Shakti Prabha is a fifth design preview in the lead-up to Journey of Fashion XXI. The earlier looks drew on artistic heritage, agricultural landscapes, Nepali adornment and a shepherd’s journey. This creation turns to the imagery and symbolism of Durga, adding a spiritual expression to the range of stories being developed for the runway.

The wider graduation show is titled Anantarūpavitānam – The Infinite Tapestry of Expressions. Earlier event details outlined six collections and 54 original designs by 54 graduating students. Journey of Fashion XXI is scheduled for 10 October 2026 at The Plaza, Lalitpur.
