Nepal’s lensman who has quietly documented the nation’s biggest moments is finally getting global applause. Senior photojournalist Pradeep Raj Onta has been honored with a Certificate of Excellence by World Book of Records London—a recognition that places his decades-long work on an international stage.

The honor came during the 20th International Summit & Award Ceremony held in Kathmandu on April 30, 2026, marking a proud milestone in Onta’s career. Known for his sharp instinct and storytelling eye, Onta has spent years capturing Nepal’s political shifts, cultural rhythms, and defining public moments, frame by frame.

His global recognition didn’t stop there. Onta was also celebrated at the “Imperial Photo Journalist Appreciation Award 2026” in Dhaka, where he was honored in the presence of Bangladesh’s State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin and Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari.

Pradeep Raj Onta Wins International Photojournalism Honors

Born on March 5, 1984, in Bungkot, Gorkha, and rooted in Kathmandu’s Thamel, Onta began his professional journey in 2008. Since then, he has built a reputation as one of Nepal’s most reliable visual storytellers. From political developments to diplomatic visits and cultural events, his camera has witnessed it all.

Currently serving as a Senior Photojournalist at Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Onta plays a key role in documenting the nation’s official narrative. He has also worked closely with the Election Commission of Nepal and previously served as photo advisor to former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a testament to the trust placed in his craft.

Beyond assignments, Onta is shaping the future of photojournalism. As President of the National Forum of Photojournalists Nepal, he has led workshops, exhibitions, and training programs to uplift emerging talents and promote ethical storytelling.

His list of accolades is equally impressive. From Photojournalist of the Year (2016) to Best Photojournalist Award (2023), and the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Fashion Fare Awards 2024, Onta’s journey reflects consistency and excellence. He was also honored with the Adityadhwaj Joshi Memorial Award by Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav during the 65th anniversary of RSS.

Internationally, Onta has represented Nepal in key events, including assignments linked to the United Nations General Assembly. His work has been showcased in exhibitions, including a solo show on World Photography Day, highlighting stories that go beyond headlines.
