‘The Everest Dream’ won the Special Jury Award for Short Documentary at Shimla’s 12th international film festival.
A journey from Scotland’s training trails to Nepal’s Everest Base Camp has brought another international honour to ‘The Everest Dream’. Directed and produced by Nepali filmmaker and journalist Ganesh Pandey, the documentary has won the Special Jury Award for Short Documentary at the 12th International Film Festival of Shimla in India.
The recognition follows the film’s Best Documentary Film Award at the Cobb International Film Festival in Georgia, USA, earlier this year, continuing its successful run on the international festival circuit.
Pandey received the latest award from Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta and festival director Pushpraj Thakur during the awards ceremony in Shimla.
Held from September 25 to 27, 2026, at the historic Gaiety Heritage Complex, the festival brought together films from 33 countries.
A Himalayan Journey With a Personal Purpose
At the heart of ‘The Everest Dream’ is a group of British people rebuilding their lives after traumatic brain injuries. The documentary follows their demanding preparations in Scotland before travelling with them to Nepal for a trek towards Everest Base Camp.
Led by James Lamb, the seven-member team included five brain injury survivors, each carrying personal experiences of recovery into the Himalayan journey.
Their goal demanded more than physical preparation. Living with the effects of serious injuries, the participants faced challenges that made the trek a deeply personal test of confidence, endurance and determination.
The film also captures setbacks along the trail. One participant had to stop before reaching Base Camp because of health concerns, giving the story an honest view of the difficulties behind the expedition.
Running for 32 minutes and 45 seconds, the documentary brings together Nepal’s mountain landscapes and the participants’ experiences of recovery, friendship and support.
According to Pandey, its central message is that serious injury or hardship does not prevent people from finding new dreams and working towards them.

Nepali documentary ‘The Everest Dream’ has won the Special Jury Award for Short Documentary at the 12th International Film Festival of Shimla, held from September 25–27, 2026.
From Georgia to Shimla
Glamour Nepal previously reported on the documentary’s Best Documentary Film Award at the Cobb International Film Festival 2026, held in Marietta, Georgia, from August 6 to 9.
The film had its Nepal premiere at the Nepal International Film Festival in April 2026 before reaching audiences abroad.
With the Shimla award, ‘The Everest Dream’ adds another achievement to its festival journey while bringing wider attention to the people whose experiences give the documentary its emotional strength.
