Just two months after winning Miss Nepal North America 2026, Deepika Sharma has taken her crown from the pageant stage in Virginia to the fashion scene in Milan, stepping onto the runway in a creation by Nepali-American designer Kriti Mainali.
It is an early international highlight in Sharma’s reign and the fulfilment of one of the most glamorous opportunities announced around this year’s Miss Nepal North America competition.
Even before the winner was crowned, organizers had revealed that the 2026 titleholder would receive an international fashion opportunity connected with Milan Fashion Week. Sharma eventually claimed the crown on July 25. By late September, she was in Milan, presenting a design by Mainali on the runway.
For Sharma, the moment opens a new chapter in a journey that began with her representing Maryland at one of the prominent beauty pageants for Nepali women in North America.
From Maryland Representative to Miss Nepal North America 2026
Deepika Sharma was crowned Miss Nepal North America 2026 during the grand finale held at Centreville High School in Clifton, Virginia, on July 25.
Representing Maryland and introduced during the competition as having roots in Pokhara, Nepal, Sharma emerged as the winner from a diverse group of young Nepali women living across the United States.
Anamika Shrestha of Michigan was named first runner-up, Anamika Khadgi of South Carolina became second runner-up, while Reshma Niraula of Texas secured the third runner-up position.
But the crown was designed to represent more than a finale-night achievement.
Miss Nepal North America has positioned itself as a platform bringing together confidence, culture, leadership and the identity of young Nepali women growing up or building their lives abroad.
For the 2026 edition, fashion was also placed prominently within that journey.
Ahead of the finale, organizers promoted an international runway opportunity in Milan as one of the experiences awaiting the eventual winner.
At the time, nobody knew whose name would be called on coronation night.
That opportunity ultimately belonged to Deepika Sharma.
Deepika Sharma Steps Onto the Runway in Milan
In Milan, Sharma appeared on the runway wearing a creation by Kriti Mainali, the Nepali-American designer behind couture label KRITI.
Her appearance took place at a fashion event in the Italian fashion capital, with Miss Nepal North America organizer Dreams Universal LLC describing Sharma’s participation as connected with Milan Fashion Week.
The moment brought together two stories from the Nepali diaspora fashion world.
On one side was Sharma, a newly crowned pageant winner beginning to explore opportunities beyond the traditional beauty-pageant stage.
On the other was Mainali, a designer steadily taking Nepal-inspired couture and craftsmanship onto international fashion platforms.
For Miss Nepal North America, Sharma’s Milan appearance also completed a story that had begun before the competition itself was decided.
The international fashion opportunity was promoted ahead of the July finale. Two months after winning the title, Sharma was standing on a runway in Milan wearing the work of a Nepali-origin designer.
Kriti Mainali’s Fashion Journey Connects New York and Milan
Sharma’s Milan appearance also connects with the growing international journey of designer Kriti Mainali.
Earlier in 2026, Mainali made her international runway debut in New York through Runway 7, presenting at Sony Hall in Times Square during New York Fashion Week.
Her 10-piece collection, titled “Heritage of Nepal,” turned the runway into a visual celebration of her roots.
The collection drew inspiration from Nepal’s cultural and natural identity, including elements associated with Swayambhunath and the Himalayas. Nepali music and imagery linked to Mount Everest were also incorporated into the presentation.
Rather than separating contemporary couture from heritage, Mainali has increasingly used the two together.
Her designs bring modern silhouettes together with intricate embroidery, handwork and traditional craftsmanship, creating pieces intended for international audiences while maintaining a visible connection to Nepal.
Mainali’s relationship with Miss Nepal North America also predates Sharma’s reign. She has previously been creatively associated with the pageant, including earlier editions of the competition.
That history gives the Milan collaboration another layer.
This was not simply a designer dressing a model for one runway appearance. It brought together a diaspora pageant, a Nepali-American fashion label and a newly crowned titleholder within an expanding international creative network.
