Nepali cinema is heading into a busy Friday as three new films ‘Malati Mangale’, ‘Lalibazar and Guru’, and ‘Guru Aama’ are all preparing for a nationwide release on Baisakh 25 (May 8, 2026).
The simultaneous release has created excitement among movie audiences as all three films come from completely different genres and themes. From romance and family emotions to social realism and youth addiction, viewers will have multiple choices at theatres this weekend.
Among them, Lalibazar had already attracted attention after its release was temporarily delayed due to a court order. The issue was later cleared after the Patan High Court lifted the stay order, allowing the film to finally reach cinemas this Friday.
Malati Mangale Brings Classic Story Back to Big Screen
Produced by popular singer Ram Krishna Dhakal, Malati Mangale is a family-oriented romantic drama directed by Praku Pandey.
The film stars Bijay Baral and Barsha Raut in lead roles. The movie is based on the legendary 1982 musical drama written by Nepal’s national poet Madhav Prasad Ghimire.
The makers say the film blends love, emotion, family values and Nepali culture. Since the original literary work remains popular among generations, the cinematic adaptation has already created curiosity among audiences.
The film’s songs and promotional materials have also received positive reactions on social media in recent weeks.
Lalibazar Focuses on Social Reality
Produced under the banner of Shatkon Arts, the team behind the successful Jatra franchise, Lalibazar presents a socially driven story centered on the struggles of women from the Badi community.
The film stars Swastima Khadka in one of her bold and most unconventional roles to date. She plays a pregnant woman facing social discrimination, poverty and difficult life circumstances.
The story reportedly explores the connection between marginalized women and a royal family member, adding mystery and drama to the narrative.
The movie is written and directed by Yam Thapa, while Pradeep Bhattarai has worked as executive producer and co-writer for screenplay and dialogues.
Because of its serious subject matter and strong female-centered storytelling, the film has already become one of the most talked-about releases of the week.
Guru Aama Carries Emotional Social Message
Guru Aama arrives with an emotional story focused on education, parenting and youth addiction.
The film follows the journey of a dedicated teacher who fights to save her student from drug addiction, even when it puts her own life and reputation at risk.
Veteran actress Mithila Sharma plays the titular role of “Guru Aama,” while the cast also includes Buddhi Tamang, Gauri Malla and Tika Sanu among others.
The film is being promoted as a socially responsible drama carrying messages about good parenting, responsible youth and standing against injustice. The emotional theme and strong performances shown in promotional content have drawn attention from family audiences.
Three Different Stories, One Big Friday
With three films targeting different audience groups, this Friday is expected to be an important test for the Nepali box office.
Malati Mangale hopes to attract viewers looking for romance, nostalgia and family entertainment. Lalibazar aims to connect with audiences interested in socially relevant storytelling, while Guru Aama is expected to appeal to family viewers seeking emotional drama with a meaningful message.
