Nikhil Upreti Unveils First Look of Much-Awaited Action Film Acharya

Nepali action star Nikhil Upreti is back in a powerful big-screen avatar. The official first look of his much-awaited action film Acharya has been released, offering audiences the first major glimpse of a project that also marks his return to direction.

The promotional video presents Acharya as “A Film by Nikhil Upreti” and announces that the movie will arrive in cinemas on Asoj 9, corresponding to September 25, 2026.

The first look positions the film as a large-scale action presentation built around Upreti’s established screen image. Known for performing physically demanding action sequences, the actor appears to be returning to the genre that made him one of Nepali cinema’s most recognisable commercial stars.

Nikhil Upreti’s Second Directorial Film

Acharya is directed by Nikhil Upreti, who also plays the central role. It is his second directorial venture following Bhairav, released in 2015.

The combination of Upreti as both filmmaker and leading man has been one of the biggest reasons behind the project’s growing anticipation. During production, he described Acharya as an ambitious action film intended to meet an international standard.

The film is produced by actress Sanchita Luitel. She is also reported to have made her debut as a choreographer through a song prepared in both Nepali and Hindi versions.

Cast and Large-Scale Production

Production reports have associated Purnika Sinjapati, Pramod Agrahari, Kameshwor Chaurasiya and Bishal Pahari with the film alongside Upreti. Other industry listings have carried additional names, although the complete official cast announcement remains awaited.

A significant portion of Acharya was filmed in India. Its production schedule included locations such as Dooars, Bagdogra, Siliguri and Thakurgunj, with further filming planned across Mumbai, Nashik, Jharkhand and Nepal. Cinematographer Manu BK and chief assistant director Sayanam Adhikari were also identified as members of the production team during the Indian schedule.

Reports circulated during filming about possible appearances by familiar faces from Bollywood or South Indian cinema. However, no particular Indian actor should be considered confirmed until the filmmakers make a formal announcement.

A Major Action Release for Nepali Cinema

The arrival of the first look begins a crucial promotional phase for Acharya. For audiences familiar with Nikhil Upreti’s action legacy, the film carries the promise of seeing the star return to an image closely connected with his popularity.

Its announced September release also places Acharya among the notable Nepali theatrical titles heading toward the festive moviegoing season.

More details about the storyline, complete cast, music and trailer are expected to be revealed as the release date approaches. For now, the official first look has successfully put Nikhil Upreti and his ambitious action comeback at the centre of Nepali cinema conversations.
