Singer Sujan Chapagain has apologised after alleged private chat screenshots involving teenage girls spread widely across social media, sparking intense public criticism and debate around celebrity conduct, online boundaries and digital accountability.
Singer Sujan Chapagain has issued a public apology after screenshots and videos described as his private chats circulated across TikTok, Instagram and Reddit, leading to a wave of criticism on social media. The controversy has placed one of Nepal’s popular contemporary singers at the centre of a growing online debate about personal conduct, account responsibility and the safety of young social media users.
According to News Sources, some of the circulating conversations allegedly contained sexually suggestive language and double entendres. The report also stated that several teenage girls posted videos on TikTok alleging that Chapagain used Instagram’s vanish mode to engage them in inappropriate conversations.
As the backlash grew, Chapagain issued a statement on Facebook acknowledging that some of the messages were genuine. He said he had exchanged messages in the past with people he considered close friends and apologised for the distress caused by the situation.
However, the singer denied responsibility for all of the content being circulated online. He said he was unaware of much of the material being shared and claimed that his social media accounts had not always been managed exclusively by him. Chapagain stated that different social media managers had access to his accounts at different times and suggested that there may have been misuse.
Sources also reported that Chapagain raised concern about fake accounts operating in his name and said he had already started an investigation process. He added that he would pursue legal action after completing his ongoing Australia music tour and returning to Nepal.
Chapagain is currently in Australia with his band Sujan Chapagain & The Infinity. Event listings show tour dates in cities including Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
The controversy has become a major talking point among Nepali social media users because it involves a well-known singer with a large young audience. Chapagain is known for popular songs such as Teenpatey, Baaf, Fulthunge Rani, Gala Pukka and Phool Oonko Sweater, and his music has often connected strongly with younger listeners.
At this stage, the authenticity of every screenshot circulating online has not been independently verified. While Chapagain has accepted that some past messages were real, he has also disputed responsibility for all the viral materials. Until a formal investigation or legal process provides clarity, the matter remains a developing story.
For public figures, the incident has renewed discussion around digital boundaries, private messaging, social media management and the responsibility that comes with celebrity influence, especially when young fans are involved.
