Nepali film ‘Lalibazar’, which officially released across Nepal from Baisakh 25, has already received strong praise following its grand premiere held on Thursday evening. Celebrities, filmmakers, political figures, and activists from the Badi community attended the event and shared highly emotional reactions after watching the film.
Veteran comedy duo Mah Jodi, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya were among the most vocal supporters of the movie.
Madan Krishna described ‘Lalibazar’ as a “perfect film,” praising its storytelling, performances, and emotional depth. According to him, the film beautifully portrays the relationship between a mother and daughter and deserves “10 out of 10.”
Hari Bansha Acharya also appreciated the film for balancing entertainment with a meaningful social message. He said the movie left a deep emotional impact on him.
One of the biggest highlights of the premiere was the performance of actress Swastima Khadka. Many attendees said her role brought tears to their eyes. Film Development Board chairman Dinesh DC praised her acting, stating that she has once again proven her talent and raised her own standards even higher.
Former minister Sumana Shrestha said the film effectively presents social discrimination and the struggle against it in a way that audiences can easily understand and connect with. Similarly, political leader Rabindra Mishra called the film a powerful artistic portrayal of a painful chapter in Nepali society.
Activist Devisara Badi, who belongs to the Badi community, shared that the film reminded her of her own mother’s struggles. She described the movie as not just cinema, but a reflection of real stories faced by many women in marginalized communities.
Director Nischal Basnet also praised the film, saying it was even better than he had expected. According to him, ‘Lalibazar’ is both entertaining and socially important, carrying a message that deserves to reach a wider audience.
Directed and written by Yam Thapa, the film stars Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Abhay Baral, and others. The movie also marks the debut of Bishal Devkota and Prashansa Subedi.
With strong emotional storytelling and positive word of mouth from its premiere, ‘Lalibazar’ is already being seen as one of the most talked-about Nepali films of the year.
