Nepal has achieved another proud international recognition after being honored with the title of “Most Charming Tourism Destination” at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF) 2026 held in China from May 21 to 23.

The prestigious recognition highlighted Nepal’s growing popularity among international travelers and reinforced the country’s image as a unique destination offering a blend of natural beauty, spirituality, culture, adventure, and wellness tourism.

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) coordinated Nepal’s participation at the three-day international travel fair under the theme “Nepal: A Lifetime Experience.” Representing Nepal at the event were NTB Senior Manager Bimal Kadel and Senior Officer Pradip Basnet, who actively promoted Nepal’s diverse tourism products to Chinese travel professionals, tourism stakeholders, media representatives, and visitors.

During the fair, Bimal Kadel delivered a detailed country presentation showcasing Nepal’s tourism strengths, including trekking, mountaineering, cultural heritage, pilgrimage tourism, wellness retreats, luxury experiences, and outdoor adventures. He also participated in a panel discussion focused on tourism marketing strategies and destination branding.

Nepal’s stall became one of the attractions of the fair, featuring interactive activities such as a spin-and-win lucky draw and demonstrations of Nepali singing bowls as part of Nepal’s growing wellness tourism campaign. Traditional Nepali cultural dance performances organized on the opening day also drew significant attention from Chinese visitors and travel trade professionals.

This recognition comes at an important time as Nepal intensifies efforts to attract more Chinese tourists following the recovery of international travel markets. China has historically remained one of Nepal’s key tourism source markets, especially for pilgrimage, adventure, and luxury travel.

Eight Nepali travel and tourism companies participated alongside NTB at the event. These included Adventure Outdoor Treks and Expedition, Buddha Maya Gardens, Dragon Holidays, Hotel Manang, Outdoor Expeditions, Pearl Holidays, Social Treks and Expedition, and The Trek Nepal. The participating companies promoted travel packages, trekking experiences, hotel services, and customized Nepal tour programs to international buyers and travel agencies.

Before attending the Guangzhou travel fair, Nepal Tourism Board also organized a special tourism promotion and B2B networking event in Shenzhen on May 20 in collaboration with the Consulate General of Nepal in Guangzhou. The event was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Shenzhen, and attracted around 80 participants from tourism, media, business, and the Nepali diaspora community.

Speaking at the event, Consul General Bharat Khanal highlighted the strong Nepal-China diplomatic relationship and emphasized tourism as a key area for future cooperation between the two countries. Shenzhen Tourism Association Vice President Wang Tao also expressed commitment to strengthening tourism collaboration and increasing visitor exchanges.

During the Shenzhen program, NTB Senior Manager Bimal Kadel highlighted Nepal’s growing wellness tourism sector, focusing on yoga, meditation, spiritual retreats, and holistic travel experiences. He also promoted Nepal Wellness Year 2027, a national tourism campaign aimed at positioning Nepal as a global wellness destination.

Another important factor supporting Nepal’s tourism growth in China is improved air connectivity. Currently, Nepal Airlines and China Southern Airlines operate direct flights between Kathmandu and Guangzhou, making travel more convenient for Chinese tourists.

Industry experts believe Nepal’s recognition at GITF 2026 could significantly boost the country’s tourism promotion efforts in the Chinese market, especially among younger travelers seeking nature, spirituality, adventure, and authentic cultural experiences.

As Nepal continues expanding its international tourism presence, the latest achievement at GITF 2026 reflects the country’s rising profile as one of Asia’s most attractive travel destinations.
