Tiger of Bajhang Rabindra Dhant Carries Nepal’s Hopes into Road to UFC Season 5

Nepal’s Rabindra Dhant steps into Road to UFC Season 5 against Australia’s Matty Iann in Macau, chasing a historic UFC contract and a breakthrough moment for Nepali MMA.

Nepal’s MMA star Rabindra Dhant is set for the biggest fight as he enters Road to UFC Season 5, facing Australian prospect Matty Lann in the opening round.

The bout will take place on May 28–29, 2026, at the Galaxy Arena in Macau, where Asia’s top fighters gather for a shot at the world’s biggest MMA stage, Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Road to UFC is not just another tournament. It’s a direct path to the UFC. Fighters must win multiple rounds in a knockout format, and only the final winner earns a contract.

For Dhant, this is more than personal success. A win would push him closer to becoming the first Nepali fighter signed by the UFC, a moment that could redefine Nepal’s place in global MMA.

Known as the “Tiger of Bajhang,” Dhant’s journey is raw and real. Born on November 30, 1998, he comes from Nepal’s far-west, a region with limited sports infrastructure. Before stepping into the cage, he worked tough jobs, including construction, to support his dream.

His breakthrough came in India’s Matrix Fight Night, where he shocked the circuit. At MFN 17 in August 2025, Dhant knocked out India’s Chungreng Koren in the third round to claim the bantamweight title becoming the first Nepali to win a belt in the promotion.

Following the win, Kathmandu Metropolitan City honored him with a cash reward, handed over by Balen Shah, recognizing his impact on Nepali sports.

Dhant enters the tournament with a professional record of 9 wins and 1 loss. Known for his aggressive striking and knockout power, he has built a reputation for finishing fights rather than leaving them to the judges.

His opponent, Matty Iann, is considered a technical and well-rounded fighter from Australia, setting up a classic clash of styles power vs precision.

With no Nepali fighter yet signed to the UFC, Dhant carries the hopes of a growing MMA fan-base back home. Gyms across Nepal have been producing talent, but this is the closest the country has come to breaking into the global elite.

If Dhant delivers in Macau, it won’t just be a win; it could open the door for an entire generation of fighters.
