First time in Nepali cinema, acclaimed actress-director Jharana Thapa and her daughter Suhana Thapa are sharing the screen together. The mother-daughter duo will headline the upcoming film ‘Baa: Ek Yoddha’, marking a special moment for the industry.
The film is directed by renowned music composer Hari Lamsal, who is making his debut as a filmmaker. Known for delivering numerous hit songs and background scores, Lamsal is now stepping into direction with a story he has also written himself.
The project officially went on floors on March 23 (Chaitra 9) with a traditional script and camera worship at Pashupatinath Temple. Although the film has been in production for the past two weeks, the makers had kept the cast under wraps until now. Currently, shooting is underway at various locations across Kathmandu, where Jharana and Suhana have already begun filming together.
Produced under the banner of Artistic Entertainment, the film promises a deeply emotional and socially grounded narrative. As the title suggests, ‘Baa: Ek Yoddha’ revolves around the role of a father in Nepali society. The film aims to portray a father as a “warrior” someone who silently carries immense responsibilities, makes lifelong sacrifices, and endures hardships to secure a better future for his children.
From rural roots to urban realities, the story explores the emotional bond between a father and his family, highlighting themes of duty, struggle, and unconditional love. The makers describe it as a pure social and emotional drama designed to connect with audiences across generations.
The film is produced by Basant Lamsal, who previously backed the film Karma starring Bipin Karki. Cinematography is handled by Shivaram Shrestha, with Taranath Neupane serving as the chief assistant director.
The release date for ‘Baa: Ek Yoddha’ will be announced after the completion of shooting and post-production work. With a strong emotional core and a unique real-life pairing, the film is already generating buzz as one of the most anticipated Nepali social dramas in the making.
