Film Producer Shivraj Karki Arrested on Foreign Job Scam Case

Film producer Shivraj Karki, known for the movie Tel Visa, has been arrested by Kathmandu police on charges of foreign employment fraud. Police say he cheated around 250 people by promising jobs abroad.

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Karki from the Swayambhu area on Tuesday. Police spokesperson SP Manohar Bhatta said he was detained following multiple complaints accusing him of taking money from people with the promise of sending them abroad for jobs, mainly to the United States.

According to police, Karki allegedly cheated around 250 individuals. More than 100 victims have already contacted authorities and filed complaints, including Pasang Norbu Tamang and others who claimed they were deceived.

Police said six arrest warrants had already been issued against him in connection with foreign employment fraud cases. After his arrest, he was sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.

Authorities also revealed that Karki had been running a consultancy named P&M Innovation Service in Chabahil for nearly ten years, which is now under investigation.

During the probe, police found that Karki had been staying in Paharganj, New Delhi, India for the past three months before his arrest. Indian Aadhaar and PAN cards were recovered from him. Police said he was operating a business called Annapurna Fast Food while staying in India.

Police records also show that a banking offense case had been filed against him earlier at Lainchaur Police Circle on July 10, 2025, indicating previous financial misconduct allegations.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police believe more victims may come forward in the coming days.

The film Tel Visa, produced by Karki, was released in 2081 BS and showed the story of Nepalis living in the United States.
